Calf strain came back. Damn. Might need a week or two of total rest. Not happy about that but least I'm not training for anything in the early spring. Anyway, happy new year to my DM friends. I'll... read more

Good luck with that. Sorry to hear about the strain, especially when you were starting to get back into the mileage again. Well since you are forced to relax, may as well do it right! Have a Happy New Year. See you out there in 2012!

2nd run since the calf strain and still feels good. I'll get some longer runs this weekend and continue creeping back into shape.

Obviously we should select trainers based on function over form, but I have to say the form factor on my new DS Trainers kicks ass.

These are actually the 2011 model, Paul (Back in the spring I didn't know and got the white with orange scheme instead -- girly), so get em while you still can!

Funny - had these in my hand tonight at Road Runner Sports. I like the look also. Ended up going with the ASICS Gel Kayano 18. Not as flashy, but felt a little better while testing on the treadmill.

Glad to hear the calf is back to 100%. Also, congrats on the new shoes... It must have been a while since you had 600+ on the old ones!

And although I'm no brand agent, I can say Asics have never let me down either. 630 miles on my last pair and those were performance trainers!

I see you've been taking the smart/conservative approach in your return to running in terms of weekly milage. I'm afraid to stop running during the winter even though I'm loosing motivation because when I start up again I'll know I'll want to get straight back to 30-40mi weeks which always ends up in injury. Looking forward to tracking your workouts in the coming weeks. When will you start up the track/interval workouts again?

I've never been much of an evening runner but last summer we were in-between houses during a move and spent a month with my in-laws. No treadmill and they made it clear that I was only allowed to leave my kids with them when they were sleeping. At first it was hard but after a while I got into a groove and I found it gave me a great burst of energy to end the day on and I slept really well!
