great Phillidephia Marathon 26.51 mi 03:51 08:42 pace

I know I'm a few days late posting, but my legs still hurt and I've been hobbling around the house.

I PR'ed it with a 3:50! I was very happy with this race. As it turns out, this race isn't as flat as one would think. As the gentleman that was doing the course overview at the Expo said "did you hear the course was flat from someone who never ran Philly, because they were wrong". Now reflecting on the race, I agree with him because the course becomes hill'ey at the wrong moments for runners. The weather was great - high 40's a the start and mid-upper 50's for the end. I do say that not being able to run much the last 3 weeks of training hurt me on the distance --I never did get in my last 20 miler due to an ankle sprain. The first half of the race I was running almost as fast as my PR for 13.1 (sub 8min miles, i think it was 7:58)... I felt really strong all race and all of the sudden on the 12 mile "down and back" on the back end of the course I hit a wall right around 15 miles.

All-in-all I don't know if I would do the race again. I liked training in the cooler weather, but the course, being an "urban" marathon didn't really do it for me. Perhaps I'm just spoiled with the lovely Vermont City Marathon....

To close this out I'll share the funniest part of the weekend. My wife and I were doing some light tourist'ing and suggested that we "occupy Philly and save on the hotel bill" as we walked past the Philadelphia Occupy tent park outside city hall. I laughed, thought about it for about 3 seconds and decided that it would be best to just stay in the hotel :)
