great Big Sur International Marathon 26.37 mi 03:43 08:27 pace

Just a fabulous time! The event is so well run. All the lead volunteers and board members wear stylish blue blazers and ties. Weather was great and the prevailing headwind was lower than usual. The mood was triumphant for the 400 Boston to Big Sur challenge participants, including yours truly.
2:45 wake-up time to catch the 4:00 bus down to the start. Then an hour+ wait with 5,000 other folks at the start "village" full of Porta Potties and thankfully hot coffee and bagels. Hooked up with GVH buddies at the start. Today the plan was to run by feel, maybe under 4 hours. I ended up hooking up with the 8:45 pace group and that helped tremendously with the drafting and just getting through the rough patches. With 5k to go I just laid the hammer down and ran hard to the end. I was getting some real pain during the run and it was tough. This is not a pr course and has some massive hills all throughout the course and the usual headwind. The course was just breathtaking! When you make the top of Hurricane Point you have a view of the amazing bridge that marks half-way and you can hear the piano man playing from two miles away. Very happy with my time so close to Boston. Made some great new friends from all over the country at the party and pasta dinner. Saw Liz and Arnel from daily mile.

Awesome run and great write up as always. From what you, Liz and Arnel wrote, it sounded like a spectacular and difficult course. Judging by your time, the hills must've been brutal! Now...REST UP!!

That sounds like a lot of fun! I never knew about the Boston to Big Sur challenge until I was at Boston. I wish I was part of the challenge, BUT I just lived vicariously through you!

@ Matthew -- there is always next year. However you'll only have one week to recover because Boston falls on the 22nd!
