Perfect weather for an irresistible ride! I hit 2 of the 3 big climbs in the neighborhood for over 9000' of ascent. Last couple miles were silly.
Late evening slow ride around the Chainbreaker race course. First real ride on a real mountain bike on real terrain. GREAT course, just way out of my league. Lots of fun features and lots of tricky... read more
Not as flat as the elevation profile from MapMyRide led me to believe! Also not a great race for me. I hung on to the peloton for about 12 miles and then rode with 3 others until finally cracking a... read more
Felt crappy after a 6 mile warm up. Legs tight and heavy, and just no energy. I turned around and took home, but kept my >20 mile rule.
Not always easy way to commit and execute on your training plan John. Hey just wanted to let you know I bought a Garmin. I know when we first started msging you were having issues with your HRM. Still like it?

Still a few problems with the HRM sensor. Seems like a neighbor has a WiFi AP that will interfere with it sometimes when I'm on the trainer (it will just refuse to find the sensor). But the main problem was solved by spit. Turns out the HRM sensors are on the straps not on the center piece so once I started slobbering on that I'd get accurate heart rates. Once in a while on a serious downhill I'll get strange readings but that could just be total epic excitement I guess. (aka "Whoopieeeeeeee!")

Great work out - I'm really feeling a difference from last year, last month and almost last week. This was a great day after a few days off.
Ascent: 1322'
Ave cadence: 91rpm
Silly easy "workout" on the trainer with too many interruptions.
Hunted out some long steep hills around town.
Total Ascent: 2472'
The best part of it was doing repeats on the 10% .3 mile hill that used to devastate me when I first got my bike. I hadn't ridden... read more
Beautiful sunset ride up into the Cascade on the DIMR.
Ascent: 2186'
Felt really good and strong. Nice sprints, chasing cars up hills.
Ascent 643'
Crampy legs (still) after Saturday's race. It's all mental game anyway - just got to learn to bust through it.
Ascent 538'
Got my ass kicked. Rode 5 miles with the peloton and then hit the first serious hill of the course. I kept pedaling hard, but for some reason everyone kept passing me. Spent the rest of the race ca... read more
Nice Job John! I know it was a tough go but i'd say 17.4 on the course you did was pretty damn good!

3210 ft is a lot of elevation for a fast paced road race. I agree with Mark. On that tough of a course it sounds like you did really well.

By the way, I am going to be doing a similar race in a month (50 miles with just under 2000 ft ascent). It will be my first ever road race. I know I will be at the back of the pack! I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks guys. I'm real happy with how it went. Before getting dropped I got good experience in the peloton, rode near the front for the few miles leading up to that hill, and was ahead of a minor crash. The more time in the peloton the better as I'm such a rookie at this.

OK so now they tell me that the Table Rock Road Race is one of the toughest (if not -the- toughest) road race in the state. Actually, glad I didn't know ahead of time!
Now looking for a flat race for a change. Found one w/ only 450', 3 hours away and right now it's feeling like it's worth the drive.

You should go for it! I would be interested to hear how it compares.

I'm pretty much set on it now. There's also a XC mtn bike race the next day so I might have to enter that too. Guess that means time to buy a mountain bike!

Its good to know your still alive. One thing about DM is if you don't post something for a couple days you may has well have fallen off the face of the earth. Trust me, I know from experience.
