  2. RUN
great Cooler Temps - Lower Dewpoint 5.5 mi 01:01 11:02 pace

First run since Effingham - felt good. Nice to get back into it and find some rhythm every so often on this one. I know the heat will return, and honestly, I need it to from time to time, but it&#x... read more

  3. VELO
great Sweaty Twenty 21.28 mi 01:10 18.2mph pace

The title has been used to death, but it's just plain hot! I could feel some "cooler" and "drier" (words used in comparison) air coming in as I finished up. Did some race p... read more

  4. swim
great LSL Bathwater 2967 yd 01:06 39:12 pace

What a bummer that swimming open water has already been dampened by the hot weather. LSL - probably already in the 80's - not refreshing, but had to get the efforts in. Started sluggish, but t... read more

  5. VELO
great Katy Trail MTB 11.34 mi 00:57 12.0mph pace

Before I jump back into stuff for the next 70.3, took a morning to relax and savor what little early morning cool there was. Headed out on the Katy on the MTB for some solid time - just enjoyment

  6. RUN
    tired Effingham 70.3 Run - DNF 2.47 mi 00:37 15:02 pace

Yea, in case you didn't notice, a 70.3 has more than 2.5 miles of a run. I think a combination of the heat and lack of electrolytes hit me hard, and I found myself close to passing out and vom... read more

  7. VELO
    great Effingham 70.3 Cycle 56 mi 03:17 17.1mph pace

Everyone had told me two things about the ride in this race - 1) there was no shade and 2) you would hit headwinds at some point. They were right about both. The lack of cover during the ride wasn&... read more

  8. swim
    great Effingham 70.3 Swim 1831 yd 00:37 35:59 pace

Got to transition in plenty of time to get set up. Got ready for a mass start (with 96 other participants). Small race, so we all go going and did a two-lap course. Really went well. The weird thin... read more

sounds like nice conditions. 80F is nice. And, it normally takes me about 4 min to take off my wetsuit, so that would have been ideal.

  10. VELO
    great Effingham Pre-70.3 Ride 5.79 mi 00:20 17.3mph pace

Headed out on the country roads. Strong indications that the heat and wind would be factors in the race, so it was good to get a feel for those, as well as the pavement full of seams. Nothing compa... read more

    great Effingham Pre-70.3 Swim 500 yd 00:10:00 35:11 pace

Headed up to Effingham for the 70.3. It was gonna be a hot one. Even the water had warmed up, so I knew that the swim would be sans-wetsuit - so that's what I worked on. Felt good.

  12. RUN
great Fooling the Medulla - Hot Las... 2.02 mi 00:22 10:53 pace

Short last run before my 70.3 on Sunday. Opted for a little heat training instead of a morning run - smart thing I did it. Use my brand new Chill-it's Towel and also excited to take my Eric S.... read more
