Goosebumps 6 and 24 Hour Run/Walk 63 mi

This is a yearly fundraiser put on by the Local Lupus Alliance (of Lacrosse, WI). It’s held on Goose Island on the backwaters of the Mississippi River on a three mile loop of woodland trails.

I had been looking forward to a cooler fall ultra (after my June 90+ degree FANS 24 hour run). Alas, the area had record breaking heat on Fri, Sat, and Sun. Instead of the normal high and low of 70/50, the high was 95 and the low was 72. Change of plans…95 degrees=95% walking. Instead of starting at 8 am on a Saturday, this one started at 2 pm on Friday (9/22). I did not want to go into the 2nd day (Sat, 9/23) of mid 90s, so early on I decided to stop when I got to 100K instead of going for 24 hours. After four laps, I soaked my feet in cold water and changed socks. That felt so good, I repeated it after laps nine and 12. After that, I repeated every two laps. This just made me feel better. I don’t think I have ever seen a better aid station of home cooked and catered food. Afterwards, there was local guitar music, grilled burgers, and a huge raffle of running gear and gift certificates.
When I checked the preliminary results, I discovered I was 16th place and 3rd female out of 130-150 runners.
