8k to keep the legs ticking over. Spent most of the afternoon at our car dealership. Remember this: http://www.dailymile.com/people/Jirnsum/entries/11690468 ? And this: http://www.dailymile.com/people/Jirnsum/entries/11920642 ? Well: that stroke of "luck" repeated itself last Sunday. Car broke down again on the highway: gearbox and drive train again all to hell. Warranty expires in three weeks, so no cost associated with that for me (nor for the dealer as their headquarters after careful study of the damage assessed it wasn't due to a faulty repair), but needless to say we lost confidence in this particular specimen. So this afternoon, for the second time in one year, we bought a new (used) car. Hoping for more luck with this one :P

Ouch, Sorry to hear that about the car. Did they offer any kind of explanation?

Last time the replaced the clutch, gearbox and flywheel. They had a tech from hq come over to take a look at the damage this time who took pictures back to HQ. The techs there think it's due to damage to another part adjacent to the clutch that wasn't replaced the first time around.

In any case, it's something that neither road assistance anwb, the dealer, or HQ had seen before. Too risky to hand on to such a special specimen imho, so that's why we took our loss and moved on.

Nice run. Annoying about the car.... at least it happened after the holidays. Ours is 14 years old with 270,000 on the clock... still dreading the day when it packs up!!

Toyota lost my trust with a similar kind of headscratching shown when others had similar problems with their cars. Google "rav4 d4d dmf problems" to get an idea. Replaced mine just before Italy. Florence and back plus a bit more now, 4500km and no probs so far. Hopefully another 150k before I do that job again. What did you go for this time?

Same one, as it appears to be a one off: no hits on this problem on the internet and if it were a common problem the anwb guys would've said so. Gone from silver to black though

That is bad luck. I'm with you time for a new-used one. You don't want little B or A stuck some where again.
