Not in the mood for the planned TM workout so instead went out for a garmin-less, no music, lost in my thoughts numb run on this 26 degree morning. The sun was just starting to crest the horizon and the breeze was almost non-existent at 5 to 7 mph out of the W; occasional light snow flurries accompanied me the first couple of miles ... last night around midnight we received a call that Patti's Mom, Jane, suffered a severe stroke. We fortunately found Patti a flight and at 4 am I drove her to Manchester, NH for a flight to Springfield, IL via O'Hare. Upon arriving home I checked on the girls who were thankfully sleeping and then put on some running gear and went out for a numb prayerful run on one of my favorite routes. The time is a guess based on the kitchen clock and my pace recently. I just want Patti to get to her Mom in time to possibly say "good-bye for now - and thanks" ... that is the most important race for me this weekend.

Oh my, Jim. I am so sorry to hear about Patti's mom. This running and prayer time was just what you needed, and getting outside on a relatively calm winter day probably helped too. Rest assured my thoughts and prayers are with you and Patti.

Sorry to hear about Jane. Praying for you and the family. A great testimony to running, as well, as that is sometimes the best place to think, pray or find peace. Blessings to you and yours!

A little update -- Patti won her race and Jane raised her left eyebrow in recognition when Patti entered her room which is good news. The next 36 to 48 hours are important we have been told. The nurses wheeled an extra bed into the hospital room so Patti will be staying with Jane tonight ...

Jim, sorry to hear this. I'm glad Patti made it out to see her mom; I'm sure that is comforting to both. Like Chuck said, running brings us peace when we need it the most. Thinking of you and your family.

Sorry to hear about Patti's mom...hope everything works out for her. These runs that you had are so nice...one of the reasons we run, to let the mind heal itself. I think you should write a book on running....take your posts and put them to paper. I know I'd buy it.
