I'm not even sure where to begin! It was such an amazing and challenging day. Steve K. joined me for most the day but did the 50k! We were in our normal yo yo routine. We went out pretty fast. It's hard to run with other distances that's for sure. The weather started out nice, overcast, breezy and cool. Toward The middle of the day it got pretty hot. I was surprised with the amount of runable portions of the course, but the hills were LONG big hills that took forever to climb. It was nice to climb up to the bluffs once... the second time... not so nice :p It was tough, because once we were out for a bit we basically knew what was coming. The heat was a challenge in the open fields. I ran into some nausea around mile 40 and fought with that for a while. Thankfully my parents came out to crew for me (along with hailey) They brought ice and really saved my race. I'm surprised at how good my legs felt for most of the race. At mile 30 they were really hurting but eventually I started feeling much better. The last 5 miles were pretty difficult. That last loop was so challenging. I think I slowed down and walked maybe 2 of the last 5 but managed to get some more running in once I got in the shade. Running into the finish with my family, steve and even hailey was great. Hailey attempted to run in WITH me, but then ended up racing me! ha! either way, it was a finish I'll never forget. Took home second female with the third female close behind. It was a battle today, I worked hard for this one! Just about a 37 minute PR from my previous 50 miler! Not sure how/if/when I'll ever top that..... I was going just about 100% Not sure if I could have given anymore at this race...
