I can't believe I did this one. Steve K. was going to join me for a portion of it but ended up having to work the day away. So I still headed out to the trails. This was the biggest mental challenge I've faced so far. It's one thing to go out and run a 50k race or even a long run with friends. It's a whole different ballgame to do it alone. There was no one else there to keep me going but myself.

The trails were in rough shape with the recent snow. The trails were groomed and people had been skiing but nothing was packed down. There were portions that were so deep my shoes would sink in. I felt like I was doing knee highs!

I ran into some cross country skiers that needed help getting back to their car. I showed them the way and before they went on they asked how far I was going today. I told them 50k and one man replied "Right now?!?!!" I'll never forget the look on his face.

The first 15 miles were difficult. I did loops around just to stay on trails that were in decent condition. At the half way point I was at 3.5 hours!!! I didn't want the run to turn into a 7 hour day so I decided to hit the paved bike route and finish it out there.

It was pretty smooth going, everything felt good, but it was still a struggle to keep going. Nutrition wise and energy wise everything was good. I stayed on top of it! I started feeling a little nauseous the last mile. It was an intense run, but I'm glad I did it and I'm glad I got through it. This was my last 50k run before the 50 miler. Mentally I should be sound after this.

And with this run, the peregrines officially hit 402 miles!!! time to shoe shop!!!

    Great Performance:

Congrats on the solo 50K, That would be tough to do along, I can only imagine. Last fall at Rock Cut was fun but I had a group to run with and some water stops too. Looks like you are on your way for the 50 miler.
