After yesterday's HR run my legs felt pretty decent so with a busy day tomorrow, I opted to go for my long run this morning. Unfortunately, that meant getting up an hour earlier than normal. This would have been fine if I had gotten to bed an hour earlier. Alas, I did not. I had a hard time waking up an my plans to hit this averaging about 8:30-8:45 pace flew right out the window by the half way point. I thought I'd have a chance on this relatively flat trail (Less than 1700' gain/loss total) . Oh well, it was still a beautiful morning.
It was good to see it get light. It's been a long time since I've been up before the sun. Saw some old men fishing at 3rd dam and a few runners and hikers on my way back down the canyon. I'm glad to report that the water is on at the dams so I was able to refill my water bottle twice. I also tried an experiment today that I think simply confirmed what I thought. Granola bars are not the best speedy fuel source. They work well for me on long slower climbs but do not provide energy fast enough for faster paces. I've gotta get some gels. I ate my last one on this run. The good news is that I didn't have any stomach problems due to the experiment so it was successful even though the run wasn't quite as planned.
I'm going to see if I can do a shorter HR run tomorrow to help recovery but mostly it'll be a busy day with family obligations. Have a great day everyone and enjoy the activity you are able to fit in today. Even if it doesn't go as planned.

Great outlook Jeremy. Sorry it didn't go how you wanted but miles in the book are still miles in the book. Way to get in that long run early in anticipation of your busy weekend!! Nice work!

Thanks guys. I think I'm ready to step back my training a bit next week for a recharge. 3 weeks in a row over 40 miles is a bit for me after only having 1 other 40 mile week this year. I've got to remember I'm still rebuilding. @ Steve, hopefully I don't fall asleep on the drive down to my mother in law's house.
