HOKA Highland Fling 53 mile Ultra marathon

Woke up this morning to legs that didnt want to know how to move, but what do I expect after running/walking/shuffling 53 miles over some stunning and fairly rough terrain, I must be honest I really didnt look around to admire the views, my mind was locked on the task of putting one foot in front of the other which was in some parts damn hard between Inversnaid and Beinglas farm, I lost count of the times I stubbed my toe or tripped over a tree root, needless to say I'll be loosing one or two toenails in the next few weeks. The race route itself was a tough one I felt, although Ive ran further this was 100 times harder in comparison, The weather was wet and dreich to start out with and turned out to be a stunningly sunny day, I had started off well and kept at a nice easy pace then Conic Hill came into view, as hard as it was going up it was just as hard to run down, I twisted my knee slightly on the down hill which made me slow up after that and not to be out done with that I banged the same knee off a boulder between Inversnaid and Beinglas farm, things from there went to shit, it was a hobble/shuffle the rest of the way but I did find a wee bit off energy left at Auchintyre Farm and trotted in the last few miles to an amazing reception, Pipers playing and swiss cattle bells clanking and the cheering of the crowd, best ever finish of any race in my opinion, high fives abound running up the red carpet and to top it off spiderman just in front of me, glad I ran it cursed it when I was running it and bloody elated to have completed it. video link of the race
