The road is out there waiting for you whenever you have the time... so is the treadmill but I don't like the TM at all. Sometimes you just have to carve out whatever time you can to get out and run/walk/exercise. It is good for your body and mind!

I just have to get into a routine, which has been difficult. I liked it when it was softball/track season and if I had to show up sweaty and gross, I could just stand off by myself. Volleyball season requires me to not stink. I may have to decide I just don't care :) I need to run, I need the outlet!!

I don't usually get the fueling right, so that was an accomplishment in itself, Teresa!! @ Mandi You know how much I've whined and complained about my crappy runs this summer...I was reminded this weekend that I do like to run. Because I'm lazy and I have no patience with "techy" things. I did sync it a while back, using a desktop that I Dont have anymore. So when I tried to do it again on my laptop, it took forever, then I couldn't remember my password or what e-mail I used, so after about 5 minutes, I gave up. I know I need to do it :) I wish I could do it using my phone!!

I am SO proud of you for getting out there today anyways and just letting go. And your mile 4 sprint-fest was crazy fast!! I think everyone has been there at one point or another, when you just need to let out a good cry and let yourself feel whatever it is you feel. Letting go takes guts, it means opening the flood gates to all those crummy feelings, and facing them head on. You did it!! Because you've got guts! And determination! :)

Yeee haw! Sounds like a great run! Most definetly sounds like fuel. I would recommend sports drink over water for hydration, and start experimenting with blocks and gels. They can be hard on your stomach, so start slow, like one an hour. From there it is really trial and error as to what works for you.

Anything over 7 miles for me and I need to eat beforehand, usually toast with peanut butter, sliced banana and (real) maple syrup. I had the same problem as you 2 weeks ago and was told electrolytes and lots of them. I have tried Nuun and will try GU next week...just experimenting.

Wait til you see the pacing of my long run today, I was looking at the graph and just shaking my head. I know I've been dying to go on a rollercoaster this summer, didn't think it would show in my running!!! hahaha I tried the Vega Sport endurance gel for the first time, idk how I feel about it. Honestly I kind of like my homemade one from 2 weeks ago better, it was like magic. Good luck with the fueling, looking forward to learning with you :D

I have to admit that I always had the mindset that if I couldn't train myself to run the whole race, I didn't want to do it. But there's no way around the fact that a ten minute miles bears a 12 minute, no matter how you get it done. I'm absolutely going to educate myself on the Galloway Method tonight. OH! And I forgot that my watch told me I set a new 10k record/pr, and I've had that watch for a while now...

i first started running with the Jeff Galloway method, then moved away from walk breaks but am gradually warming up to them again. Apparently if you give your legs a minutes recovery in about every 20-30 your overall recovery is much better!

If only I COULD figure out the clone thing... Sharon, 8 am IS super duper early for me :) I've been doing my runs this summer after dropping one child, before picking another one up. I have to drive somewhere to run, so I try to save gas... I may try an earlier run tomorrow since I have to do 14 miles, and it'll probably take a while!!

Marathon training is tough, requires a lot of discipline and support and takes a lot of time away from family and other things and if you don't like the training, you probably won't fully appreciate the actual race experience. It sucks giving it up, but sounds like the timing isn't right. Someday it will be and when that time comes, I recommend joining a running group which will make your long runs a lot easier and you'll have a ton of support along the way!

Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement. I'm back on the fence about it, but I am going to take the week off. No logging runs, no turning my Hal app on, no looking at my watch. There are a lot of personal reasons attached to running in Chicago besides just running a marathon. Sigh.
