Woke up late because I was out until midnight at my friends bachelorette dinner. When I realized I was late for the distance training program, I felt like curling up and going back to bed. Roswell to the rescue! He got me out of bed and running at Burke Lake. I thought a lot about Born to Run - and while I'm not ready to throw out my running shoes altogether yet, there are some great lessons to be learned. The one I concentrated on today was if it feels like work, you're going too fast. Seems like a good lesson for a long run. The run went really well after I got warmed up from the first few miles. I tried to only run as fast as felt comfortable and to just enjoy the run. I had two runners comment on my Historic Half shirt, which was really nice and reminded me why I run - the community! Miles 5, 6 and 7 were amazing - but something happened after that where it started to go downhill. Not sure whether it was that I hadn't done a run that long in a while, or stopping to take a GU... Guess I'll find that out next long run!
