"zone 2 training does not work instantaneously, you MUST have patience, this WILL pay off". Ugh. Had a great long run-intervals of 20 minutes zone 2 followed by 3 minutes hard for 1:47:00. However, the zone 2 part left me feeling like grandma shuffling along, lol. Ah well. PERFECT running weather, about 67 degrees, 78% humidity, and overcast so no sun beating down on me (would have been too much with the humidity). Either way it's another long (ish) run in the books!

so in different heart rate zones your body utilizes different energy sources. In zone 2, you burn mainly fat, which has more energy per gram than carbs or sugars, so you can go longer without burning up glycogen stores. If you train in zone 2, you teach your body to become more efficient at burning fat, and over time you become faster in zone 2. So long story short, faster, more fuel efficient Heather. this helps explain: http://www.duathlon.com/articles/1460

I tried that heart rate zone thing for about a month...I think its great but on Friday I ran with my garmin not displaying pace and i ran by listening to my body and checking my hr every now and again.....so what I am saying is mix it up from time to time. Don't become a slave to the technology....just listen to the body
