SICK. ESPN talkshow host Tony Kornheiser advocates running down cyclists. "And so you tap them. I'm not saying you kill them. I'm saying you tap them. Tap them once" Hear it for yourself here : http://blogs.liverpoolecho.co.uk/acyclistslife/2010/03/talkshow-host-tony-kornheiser.html Then let ESPN know how upset you are over this http://www.espn980.com/info/contact_us.php

As if I'm not scared enough riding my bike, I swear I hear about a-holes like this every other day. I remind myself that living a life in fear is not living, but my goodness, WHY do people hate on bikes so much? arrrg. Thanks Tony for fueling the fire!

update: From @LanceArmstrong twitter feed: " ...just off the phone w/ Tony Kornheiser who's very sorry 4 his comments re: cyclists. Going on the show 2morrow 2 discuss this w/ him. " Can't wait to hear what he has to say...

I'd highly recommend anyone who cycles often to pick up a copy of your local bike laws. If you're on the road and get in an argument with someone, it's nice to have reference material to drop some knowledge on them. Most people don't know that cycling on the sidewalk is illegal and cycling two abreast is legal (in most areas). Also, carry a phone. If someone does "tap" you, don't hesitate to call the police.

Word has it that Lance Armstrong will be on his show tomorrow and Kornheiser will apologize.

GREAT Advice Kelly! I'm going to look into that, as I'm a new cyclist and frankly, terrified of drivers. My very first organized ride I had a guy slow down and scream at me to get on the sidewalk. aye!
Neil, I heard the same thing.

This is just sickening. I already have people yelling at me, throwing stuff from their cars at me, and swerving at me so the last thing I need is someone trying to "tap" me because some ass at ESPN suggested it.
I sent a scathing email to 'ESPN 980 Management' that this jerk should not be representing a sports minded network.

It doesn't help that there aren't shoulders where I live. It's bad enough when I go running, but even worse when biking. Drivers are crazy enough already with their phones and other distractions.
