Today was definitely a learning experience at Tejas Triathlon. I need to spend time in the pool and work on my swim. My transitions were less than lackluster. I struggled coming off the bike getting racked since my seat is so tall and the rack was low with all the other bikes weight after my return. I tore my run bib to make things worse as I was heading out of T2 so my T2 time was almost as bad as my T1 time. Overall I was 400 out of 600 something people which is not my desired result. I estimated it would take me 1:15 to finish today but I missed the mark by 6 minutes, all of which was tacked on to my swim time. I feel that once I get my swim dialed in my bike and run times will be much better since I won't be so exhausted. I should be happy with a 24 minute run but I'm a 22 minute guy and I don't like walking so I am very unsatisfied to say the least. No matter what I can only get better and I will take the lessons that the day gave and learn from them. Time to start training for Bridgeland in August.

Great job out there. Don't focus on your times too much, just keep learning. Each race is a chance to improve from the last, so at least you have a baseline to measure from.

Thanks Mark. Considering today is scratch or zero day I really have nothing to compare it to. I'm just going to work on improving and focus on what I can change...

Don't be so hard on yourself! You just completed something that most people only ever dream about or think is completely impossible! Let me know if you ever want to meet up for a swim - I do open water at Lake 288 and my pool days at the UH rec center (big, BEAUTIFUL pool). I'm training my boyfriend right now for our first tri and his swimming gets faster every week!

Way to fight through the adversity and finish. I have the same problem racking my bike by the saddle (62cm frame, 300mm seat post), so I rack by the handlebars whenever possible.

Hey Greg! WTG! I agree; don't be too hard on yourself. I stay motivated by all of you here on DM and hope to be able to do a tri one day! You ROCK! :)

You guys rock. I'm definitely not discouraged and I know that I'm only going to get better from here on out.

Melanee, I love Lake 288 but it is such a far drive. We are looking at doing some Lake Conroe training with a group and a couple of kayaks. :)
