I went into this race just hoping I'd finish. My right IT band has NOT been cooperating lately, and I haven't completed a run without IT band pain for over a month. I also haven't completed a run of 3+ miles in over a month. So I knew today would be interesting...
But good news--I am SO HAPPY as to how the race turned out! I ran at least 80% of the race, and while I did have some IT band pain, I was able to manage it with walk breaks and stretching during the run. My pace would have been even better if I had not stopped to use the port-a-potty in mile 5--I waited over 8 minutes in line for it! I did hit a groove around then, and I dug up some splits that I didn't know that I had in me, including a final mile of 9:19!!! Mile splits: 11:46, 11:31, 11:59, 10:56, 18:45 (port-a-potty break), 10:21, 11:15, 11:44, 11:07, 9:19(!!!!!).
