Two new additions to my running: The first is that I now have a new running pal... and frankly he's more like my personal coach than just a running pal! He's incredible! I met him through a friend and found out that he was doing the Utah Valley Marathon too, so we got in touch and decided to run together. He's just what the doctor ordered, he motivates and pushes me in a good way! The second new addition are my new Asics which I had "minimized" after purchasing. My calves are definitely saying one word loud and clear--OUCH! However I *knew* I shouldn't have run so far in them for the first time but I did! I know I'm gonna be so sore the next week. But one awesome thing is that IMMEDIATELY I could feel the difference in my step. I land on the ball & center of my foot so naturally, instead of my heel. I'm so happy about this and I hope that through strengthening my calves I will someday be a much better runner because of it. Anyone else have experience with minimalist or barefoot running?

Also, I did an extra two laps at the track but I don't know how much that really is... so I can't add it to the "distance"... so maybe I ran more like 9 miles? donno. We also did some ab work afterwards. P.S. despite my putting the "injured" face, I'm still incredibly HAPPY with today's RUN!! YAYAY!!

Congrats!!! and switching to forefoot running should be done gradually. Your calves will get used to it and it is much better on the joints.

Finding a good running partner is no easy task. Congratulations to you for that. Hill work will make those calves strong.

Congrats on your new Asics. I love Asics, I run with Nimbus 10 now. About bare feet running.... I prefer to run bare feet on a soft beach sand, they're really awesome for your fascia, getting stronger legs and overall balance. Great job on your run. :o)

Hey JenaƩ, I switched to that running style last year too, with the help of some Nike+ Free shoes, and it's done wonders to help keep me injury free. Definitely I felt the change in my calves for the first month, but after that it became a natural stride.

How did you "minimalize" the asics? zero drop them? I've do a lot of running in barefoot (treadmill and pavement), in vibram five fingers (trails), and I just mad the huaraches you see in the picture... They are tremendously fun on the trails! I am working towards more barefooting on grass and eventually trails. It certainly teaches you quickly how to run "lighter!" But I also use more traditional shoes when the conditions call for it.
