Great run in Wales today (Wales, WI). Ran a 5 miler on the Glacial Drumlin Trail. After Mile one I was suprised - under 9:00, kept the pace and set a new PR for 5 miles. Loved the flat trail and check out the splits. I did not know I had it in me!! Sho... read more

Nice job. I really need to start doing recovery runs or some other sort of cross training on Sundays. I run my long run and then do nothing for a few days.
about 8 hours agoI'm new to endurance running, but was told that a nice, easy run the day after your long run can loosen up your legs a bit and cut down on residual soreness. I haven't done one yet, though (always run my long runs on Saturday and take Sunday and Monday off).
about 4 hours agoBelow was a forum in DM a year back. No clear winner.
http://www.dailymile.com/forums/beginner-running/questions/653-do-you-need-to-have-a-rest-day-after-your-long-run
I looked a few different schedules and some have a rest day, others a x-train day, and others a 3-4 mile recovery run.
