Calf very sore so cut it short. Very frustrating. Will try and supplement with more cross training. I don't think speed work will be a very good idea for the time being. The fun run in two wee... read more

I am guilty of not doing the fun run in the right spirit. I am very focused on putting in a good time and have no intention of wearing a pink tutu or pushing a bed. I have raised a thousand pounds for charity though, that should buy me some slack.

Sounds like a good, wise plan..! Slower for a bit pays off (I'm in the same boat, I've got to dial it back for a bit until my calf is back up to it). Sorry about your calf, I hope it's ok again soon.. more x-training sounds like a good idea.

I read the 180- Heart Rate article you posted a link to. It seems to give us all a license to run really slowly. I have seen equally earnest write-ups saying the exact opposite. Who knows?

I am a little sceptical myself, but it's worth looking into and some slower running won't do any harm for now, especially as I am ramping up the mileage.

How did you decide that 133 was your training heart rate?

I just went with 180 minus age to give me a max HR of 137. My average falls around 133 because I never let it exceed this and it obviously starts off slower. Here is one of the articles I read http://philmaffetone.com/180formula.cfm
