I couldn't run today or work out at all. I wanted to, but I felt ill all day. My Celiac was acting up and I had no energy and felt nauseated. It felt in a way like I got robbed - today would have b... read more

good C25K: Week 8 Day 3 2.97 mi 00:28 09:30 pace
I had to walk halfway through again - could that be a sign that I should be warming up more? I don't feel fully "warmed up" when I begin my run, although I warm up pretty quickly once I'v... read more

great Stationary bike quickie 00:29
Work ran over so I had to cut the workout short for study time. Hopefully tomorrow will be a shorter day and I'll have time for a full run.

Took it easy today. Got the workout in between work and doc's appointment. Just taking today as a relatively down day.

My idea for keeping my mental health as I get closer to the giant exams is to work out and really push my body - the endorphins are helping a lot with my anxiety levels.

RUN
good C25K Week 8 day 2 2.95 mi 00:30 10:00 pace
I had to walk partway through the run. It felt like a setback, but after a brief walk I was able to go back and run well. I ended up feeling great.

There's no shame in walking. You finished with a respectable pace and felt great. Sounds like all upside to me.

Thanks. I was worried I'd have to turn back. I started getting stomach cramps and sometimes they get bad enough that I have to walk home. Luckily this time, they cleared up quickly. I guess giving up dairy was an even better idea than I'd originally thought, at least for now ...

Do you know how many folks would kill to be able to run a 5k in your timing?

Actually, I think my fiance is one of them ... he says I'm a natural. I think it has more to do with the fact that I lost weight due to health problems and THEN took up running, so the whole running thing was a lot easier in the first place.

alright Stationary bike 00:25
I was tired and unmotivated today. It's OK. I'll go for a run tomorrow - that's starting to feel better than the bike because it feels more like an accomplishment. I'm still sorting out some dietar... read more

alright Getting back in the swing of ... 2.86 mi 00:29 10:08 pace
My first run after my first 5K. Felt good to get out, but my legs were not as cooperative as they were on Sunday. Wish I hadn't felt like such crap earlier in the week.

Now I'm starting to wonder what my next goal should be. I need to finish C25K, since I still haven't. Doing that will help me to decrease my 5K time. But what are some reasonable next goals? Runner... read more

Have you thought about finding a 5 mile or 10K run? I haven't worried much about getting faster, but I've been trying to push my distance. Nice benefit of building up distance is that in most cases you'll get faster as a side-effect.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I don't have time to push distance a lot, unfortunately. But I'd love to start doing a long run each week and also some short runs. I think that would be fun.

A reasonable next goal might be to run another 5k at a 9 minute mile pace. You can often have pretty big gains between race 1 and race 2 since you know what to expect.

RUN
tired Old West End 2.43 mi 00:25 10:17 pace
Also did a 5-min warm up and 5-min cool down. It was hotter and more humid than I was ready for.

Emily
For most of my runs, I don't really hit my stride until I'm 1.5-2 miles in. I don't do any static or dynamic stretching before a normal training run because it doesn't seem to benefit me. Before a 5k race I'll do some dynamic stretching and strides though since the starting pace needs to be strong.

Before my 5K I actually walked on the treadmill at an easy (but active) pace for 30 minutes to warm up, and I felt fantastic. I just don't want to do that EVERY day.
