I ran for OAR once and Back on My Feet--both times I trained solo as I wasn't able to make it to the group runs as I was living in North Carolina and traveling to VA every weekend. It's a great experience, however, especially when actually running the marathon because the crowd recognizes you a bit more as your running by, and that encouragement goes a long way. I'm not a big fan of asking people for money, but it's a good experience. & they help you build a website to solicit donations.
