Surprised by Ed in Newark Mile
3.5

Newark Mile 2.5 mile race and warm-up, cool down. Unfortunately my plan to beat Ed failed. He went along with my easy pace for 1.5 miles, but at the turn-around he looked at his watch and decided to take off. He got well-ahead of me before the 1/2 mile to go point where had I planned to push the pace, and beat me by 30 sec. I could tell that He was in better shape than me.
18:27, 3rd in division (Ed 2nd in division).

You are not far from him. Great race!

Curses, dastardly Ed! Nothing shabby about 3rd though.

Nothing wrong with 3rd. It's hard to beat someone who's fitter than you.

Thanks. One of the cool things about this race is they give out a bunch of large trophies. A trophy to each age group winner, a trophy for first overall winners, and trophy for Newark resident winners. So if you win the race and are a Newark resident you can get 3 (which a guy did today!)

Well done, Mike. Way to keep Ed in your sights.

i guess you didn't tie his shoelaces together... to prepare for next time, about 3 weeks before the race, sign him up for a bunch of telemarketing calls saying to contact between midnight and 4 am.... That should slow him down!
