Aching at Andover, MA - Coach Matt had told me to take it easier this week due to sore quads, but I didn't plan on taking it THIS easy. I've had sore quads for a couple of weeks now, and the combination of running 6 yesterday morning then driving all day just made matters that much worse. This morning my quads were extremely stiff and sore when I started the run. I finally cut it short at 3.5 miles, half of the distance on my plan for today. The weather was perfect for a run, but my legs refused to cooperate. I have another run scheduled for tomorrow, but I may just give the quads a rest instead. Yoga stretches, with special attention given to the quads and hips, followed the run.

Hand in there, David. Hate that kind of feeling, but it probably means you're pushing yourself and once you get over the soreness, you'll be the better for it!

Feel better soon! I know it's frustrating to be slowed by a nagging soreness, but keep your head up. You'll be back soon!

Sitting still for driving just kills the legs. Keep stretching!

Better safe than sorry. Good call on cutting it short and still a good 3.5.

David i am willing to bet that u r experiencing some DOMS(Delayed onset muscle soreness) which can b expected at some point to a certain extent when doing alot of hill work or hilly runs or a combintation. If u have a foam roller then roll your quads and hip flexors over it. If u have any specific spots(points)of tenderness in the quads, then i like to use a tennis, raquet,or my new favorite a lacrosse ball to roll around on the tender spots for a trigger point release. This works especially well for those

for those deep muscles that are beyond the surface which cause lingering problems. Taking a day off would not hurt and avoid the hills until it subsides, then b careful w/a lot of down hill running to which exacerbates the problems because of the repeated eccentric contractions of the quads. Its reall easy to strain a quad during times like your having. Hope that helps brother. Keep on training smart and let me know if i can help any way.

Thanks Shane. I've given thought to using a foam roller. I may also go get a muscle massage at a physical therapy place I've used previously.

Be sure to ask for a deep tissue, to get the benefit, sometimes they give the feel good massages, not the therapeutic one.
