Not sure what to think after today as this is only the 2nd run this week. The hip is giving me nothing but grief and I will have to make a decision sometime this week if maybe it is time to shut things down and recoup and come back strong next year. I promised to pace a friend to a 1:35 and almost got him under 1:35 but he started to fade around mile 11 and the wind proved to much. Overall the run was easy for me but the hip after 10 miles was getting dicey and there was no way in the world I could have gone 26 as it started going downhill quickly. After the race after waiting for my Wife to finish it seized up and just trying to walk back to the car was an event. It feels better now and I can walk without to much pain but it is just not going away. We shall see but I am prepared to wrap up the year if needed. Not done yet and will just wait and see.

Tough, the hip. Hope it shakes out OK, but sounds like it might be time to shut it down for awhile. Good work pacing your friend.

Hope this fixes quickly David, good luck. Maybe give it a week of easy stuff and gentle stretching before drawing conclusions... thinking of you!!!

Nice job pacing your friend. Bummed to hear that the hip is seeming to get worse but impressed by your patients and plans to shut things down if necessary. Crossing my fingers and toes for you.

Wish I had a friend like you to pace me :) Take care with the hip. Sounds like you have a plan though.

Thanks all for the comments. I look at it as I have had a great year and had 2 good marathons in. Since I still have a hard time walking I would rather be out for a month then months at this point. I have a cool bike trainer that will keep me in shape over the next couple of months and will start playing with FTP (Functional Threshold Power) output. I know that I will be back with a vengeance next year. I wanted the sub 3 but I am confident that it will happen next year. Thanks again.

Sorry about the hip David (and that I missed this post before) - you are an example for all of us with your patience, and it sounds like you have made your decision. I hope the recovery is quick, and this great year positions you well for an even better one next year.

I completely missed this post and was wondering what's going on w David? Really sorry to hear hip has been giving you a hard time. My understanding is that hip issues must be taken seriously, they are no joke, so hope the recovery process is going well and that you will be patience enough to make sure hip will have time for a full recovery, and after that you will come back in full force!
