Had 18 miles with 12 @ MP (6:50) today. Everything was bothering me yesterday and I was just hurting everywhere from the hips down. My feet even hurt so today was questionable. I took my kids swimming at the gym last night and was able to really work the arches of my feet while they were swimming. When we got home I rolled the crap out of everything. I spent a lot of time experimenting and found a whole bunch of hotspots and just concentrated on those areas. Woke up this morning and when I got out of bed things felt fairly good. Decided to give it a go today and if I got out there and if things didn't work out then I would just call it a short easy day. Did a 5 mile warmup and could really feel my upper quad and a little bit through the hips. My shins were a little tight as well but was able to loosen that area up. Went into the MP miles and the first couple it was really tough to get into a groove and from there things started to feel better as the run went along. Was able to get the 12 in @ 6:40 avg pace (6:44, 6:37, 6:41, 6:36, 6:45, 6:43, 6:42, 6:41, 6:42, 6:43, 6:42, 6:32). Had a nice little headwind for the last 8 miles of the run as well. Finished up with a 1 mile cooldown. Any pains I had started to go away as the MP miles went on which was a good sign. Overall very pleased but still need to work on the hotspots. This has been and up and down week emotionally as one day everything is hurting really bad and another it seems ok. Knowing that the start of runs are going to be painful and not knowing for how long starts to take a toll on me as well. I will spend a lot of time this weekend playing around with the foam roller as what I did last night seemed to work out well. I only have one more hard week to get in. Still positive that things can be worked out.

Wondered yesterday how you were feeling. Glad you were able to get this workout in and at the level you did. Monster indeed--strong finish on that last MP mile too. Just hope everything holds together. Get some good rest and rolling...

I'm tired of hurting at a start of a run, makes it hard to just go out and have fun. Roll away those hotspots, man.

@Mike It does get old really quick. It is hard enough knowing I had to do 12 @ MP and to throw in knowing you are going to hurt at the beginning saps your energy. I was not into this run this morning mentally and it was hard to get there. I had to ask myself the question "Do you want that sub 3 or what?"

@Marcie We shall see what tomorrow brings. The good news today is the outside of my hip wasn't bothering me and over the last few days this was the area that even made it hard for me to walk sometimes. I am hoping I found the right spots to roll last night. No limping when running though as I do shut things down right away if I am limping.

Impressive run. Seems to me that this is at the same time an excellent mental preparation for race day! So on race day you will be physically and mentally ready for that sub 3!

I remember that feeling, late in a training cycle, where I knew it would be 3-5 miles before things would start to feel good and loose. You still turned this one into a solid run. Nice work, and hang in there!

Great run, David. Stay positive, you've got the hard work behind you and some time to keep things loose and pain free during the taper.

If you don't run a sub 3, it's not going to be because you're not in shape or capable. Hope all that injury nonsense leaves soon. The foam roller helps me tons. Also going to the Sports Chiro helps a bundle to get thme to work out little issues too even though it hurts. Fantastic run here, David.

@Tim M. The positives are everything felt better further I went, the outside of the hip which I thought may be bursitis feels better, and I have been able to walk fine for the rest of the day. I was able to take my boys out to play paintball and the only pain I felt was being shot. Man those things can hurt. I am contemplating a Chiro and will see how tomorrow goes.
