I woke up rather tired for this little affair after hosting a party last night, but we were able to get everybody out the door for this little family event in Leesburg, VA. Let's just say I wasn't feeling my best. But let's also say I loved this race! Beautiful jaunt through the rolling hills of the Virginia countryside in horse country. As advertised, probably 80% of the course was on gravel road, the remainder was grass and asphalt.
There were three significant hills, all in the second half of the course. Several other rolling hills too that, combined with the tough hills, just ground me out. I gamely ran the first of the 3 difficult hills, but had to power walk the next two.
My stepson had a great race to finish his first ever 10K. He finished in about 1:01 and his best friend also finished - his first race of any kind - in about 1:10. I was quite proud of them.
For those local, I definitely recommend this race. Well run, well organized, and the trek through the country is quite appealing - and the hills give that added challenge to the distance.
And I would remiss to not mention my bride and stepdaughter enjoyed their 4K Fun Run/Walk up to the mansion on the Morven Estate too! A great day for all of us!

Nice race Dave. The race advertisement w/the start of the race on grass followed by a picture of the mansion had me salivating to run this one. Gravel's a killer for me though.

Great race Dave! Sounds like a beautiful, challenging course. I love that area, we played our fall soccer tournament at Ida Lee Park. Happy New Year to you, I hope we can meet sometime this year.
