  1. swim
    good 1500 yd 00:40 46:55 pace

I'm still incredibly slow, but at least I now have brief periods when I start thinking about something other than my swimming stroke.

  2. FIT
good baby steps 2.5 mi 00:30 12:00 pace

As no pain on stationary bike I bravely switched to elliptical. Took it very easy and made sure foot was planted on pedal. Started to feel achilles a little at the end, but I will take that. I t... read more

good Stationary Bike 10 mi 00:30 20.0mph pace

Limited pain in achilles, so that means it went good.

  4. swim
    1000 yd 00:30 52:47 pace

Starting to get use to swimming, although not sure I'm getting any better.

good Stationary Cycle - first brick 5 mi 00:15:00 20.0mph pace

Followed up swimming with a short ride on stationary bike. I guess this counts as my first brick workout, although the cycling was very easy with main focus on not aggravating my achilles.

  6. swim
    alright 1000 yd 00:30 52:47 pace

    So-so.

  7. swim
    alright 1000 yd 00:35 61:35 pace

Tried to implement, with little success, some tips from various Youtube videos on swimming. Make sense in theory, but just need to figure out how to put into practice.

  8. swim
    alright 1500 yd 00:45 52:47 pace

Better than yesterday, but nothing makes me feel as inadequate as swimming. If, as it appears it will be for a while, swimming is my main exercise I think I might need to have lessons.

I never cared for swimming when I was younger. I held my breath for three or four strokes. Wrong. Someone pointed out that I needed more to breathe every stroke for more O and to glide more under the water.

I hear ya man. I've been in the pool lately and after the first outing alone I new I needed lessons. My swimming was just splashing around! Might as well get a lesson or two and enjoy it.

    blah 1000 yd 00:40 70:23 pace

Couldn't get into any sort of rhythm. Didn't even manage to keep track of number of laps. Plus side is this is the one exercise where achilles doesn't hurt (much).

Nicely done Darryn...some days the rhythym comes...some it doesn't..

Looks like need to back off a bit. Achilles started to ache towards the end of the class (I think from periods when standing up). So swimming might be it.

  11. swim
    good 1250 yd 00:40 56:19 pace

A bit of a struggle at the beginning, but was OK once I got into it (and sorted out the goggles ... one kept leaking at the start).

Still floundering around. Not getting much distance in, but still getting a good workout. The guy I was sharing the lane with probably did twice my distance, but I am sure I put in more effort.

Lois, its only been 2 weeks (and I miss you too ... this solo training is tough), and I suspect it is going to be more than a 4 week sabbatical as absolutely no improvement. MRI tomorrow, but Doc doesn't think it will show anything (other than tendinosis) and this is just to rule anything else out. Back to see him next week and then will see what magic he can do.
