Humid out but not too hot. Took it relatively easy and then picked it up to race pace for the last three miles. (I think end-of-the-race discipline is something I can improve on so I'm going t... read more

good Saturday morning 5.01 mi 00:50 09:59 pace
Fun run! Went out early to finish it before the rain started. I explored some other trails in my park that offered some variety in terrain.

good Easy Wednesday 5.8 mi 00:59 10:12 pace
The plan was for 5 miles but the out-and-back loop I took ended up providing me with a little "bonus" run. Really appreciated how nice out it was, especially since it's supposed to r... read more

good Garbage Hill 3 3 mi 00:29 09:48 pace
Hal Higdon's intermediate marathon plans eschew speedwork but since Treherne is hilly and Winnipeg is so flat, I figure I should get some time in some bumpy terrain between now and September 8... read more

good I saw a fox! 5.18 mi 00:51 09:46 pace
There was a fox at the Forks near where the path ends at the Norwood Bridge! Run was good but brisk; 17 degrees cooler that yesterday evening's run. Geez.

Thank you! It was a thrill to cross a finish line at a half with the clock having a "1" on it... :) It was really fun though, thanks for taking the more brutal leg! Hopefully we can smoke the RCAF in a few weeks...

Kristine: I was trying to spot Sam so I could high five her before the race, and see what she was wearing so I'd be prepared for the relay exchange!

good Quick Three 3 mi 00:26 08:34 pace
Wow it's been like days and days since I've had to run in the snow. I wasn't nostalgic at all :P Splits were 8:37, 8:39 and 8:32.

Well, at least it wasn't "real" snow! Nice pace, what speed are you thinking of running at Sunday's relay?

Excellent! I'm sure I'll be good for at least a 52 or 53 minute time so you just need to pull off 1:07-1:08 :D

Good run. Still big ice patches under the bridges but hopefully double digits over the next couple of days take care of that! Double. Digits.

So I definitely wasn't going to do a marathon this year. Nope. But there have been a bunch of race reports on /r/running lately and between those and the whole Boston business I started really... read more

So far, my lack of experience at half and 30 keeps me safe from the call of the marathon - though that'll change this summer. I think I'll definitely be involved with Scotia this fall. Whether it's the full, the half or as a volunteer remains to be seen!

Well, you've set some pretty fast half PRs already this season, so even if you don't have time for one after the marathon, you'll be pretty well set up.

I think that race pace is a good plan. In the Half plan I was doing it had "race simulation" runs every other week, where you ran the first 2/3s - 1/2 slow and the last part at 15-30 seconds above your desired pace and it does help you get used to picking up the pace on tired legs.

It also makes long runs less boring, I find.
