I can't believe how much I've abandoned running/my health after my marathon in May. I want to start back up again so bad but feel so un-motivated. First run in ages and it shows. Shin pains neve... read more

blah Dinosaur Valley Half Marathon 21.08 km 02:44 12:31 pace

Really paid for not having run in the past 30+ days. Tough course, hot day, calf cramps, 150m climb in the first couple km. I need to get back to my regular self.

  3. RUN
good Energizer Night Race 10 km 00:59 09:29 pace

GPS said it was shorter than 10K but oh well. It was a really really hard push for me to finish as hard as I did. Maybe too hard. I was getting back cramps last few kms and at the finish line I ... read more

  5. RUN
    alright August31 - Day 3 - Citadel / ... 10.4 km 01:13 11:19 pace

Waited out the thunderstorms and stayed dry tonight. The usual muscles were sore, quads/hams/calves. I swear I had a side stitch for 5km.

  6. RUN
    alright August31 - Day 2 - Citadel / ... 10.4 km 01:15 11:36 pace

First 5k felt great then the legs started hurting. Mostly the calves uphill and hamstrings in general. Tough run right after hockey.

  7. FIT
    good Hockey

Legs felt tired from yesterday's run.

  8. RUN
    alright August31 - Day #1 Citadel/Ham... 10.4 km 01:13 11:15 pace

Tough start. Spend all day yesterday and today in the sun. Felt a little exhausted. Used walk breaks as this week is gonna be rough. Happy to get the first 10K run in. #31daysofpain

  9. RUN
    alright 1/2 Training - Run #3 Tempo 5.56 km 00:35 10:07 pace

Still feels tough. Couldn't keep the same pace as yesterday but still a good tempo pace for me. Wore the same shoes as my marathon, curious to see if I get the same pain in my right foot...

  10. RUN
    alright 1/2 Training - Run #2 Tempo 4.05 km 00:24 09:35 pace

Short tempo run, was tough just to keep it around 6:00/km. Found a nice 1.5km loop around a lake, should be a nice cool spot to run.

  11. RUN

i think cross-training is a great idea and it helped me deal with my shin splints & knee injury. i found that spinning, weight-training, yoga & pilates really made a difference when i was training for my first 1/2 this year.

I agree. When I was having shin problems I cycled and they got better while keeping my cardio up to speed. I'm thinking of starting weight training to help me become a stronger runner.

Great job Donald! Of the 12 marathons I've done, Calgary is by far the toughest. I cannot imagine doing it with a calf cramp!

Thanks everyone! Walking that 2nd half was physically the hardest thing I have ever done. Amazing thing I think about now is that even though every single step in the 2nd half was painful, quitting never once crossed my mind.
