Waaaaahhhhh! That's all you need to know to understand my race and the rest of this post. All else is for historical internet noise purposes. ok, so this was my 3rd speed workout of the week, and I'm about 5-8 pounds overweight where I would like to be, and it was the first hot race of the season, sooooooooo, I ran a good 20 sec/mile slower than in Sept in the other 10k and about 10sec/mile slower than in a 10 miler in October. Long story short, I hate not being in shape!!! Whine. My big epiphany today was that it is way harder to run SLOWER when you are out of shape. And by that, I mean that I was running slower, and I was getting my ass kicked! I poured about 7 glasses of water over my head throughout the race. I dread to see the pictures of my pain ridden face, with my drenched head and body, which might even look as if I have pissed myself, but only at the right angle, which any decent photographer should have captured for me to take note of. Still happy to just be able to run at all and for the luxury of being able to do this stuff, so it's "all good".

Dude, really? All of that for it's 'all good'. Jkn ;). It is all good bro! Your still a badass, but you best get your shiz together or you could just get used to slowing down? ouch!

Dan, everything in this life is relative. More than likely, 1/100th of 1% of the population could only dream of running that fast. Give yourself more credit, mate.

We all get out of shape. It happens. The fact that you can run that pace for 6.2 miles is impressive. Don't sell yourself short!!

I think it was a fabulous race. If you are out of shape, I am a slug!! Having serious cardio issues after being in a boot for 9 weeks...and eating sweets (which I never did before) like they were going to quit making them. I have got to seriously step up my training!

Great stepping stone to Boston!! Waking up the fire within!! Awesome performance. Hard race with the heat and hills, but you fought through it.

Sounds more like an off day, with the conditions not helping any.

Still a very good time for a tough 10k course on a hot day. The Capital 10k is very popular and very competitive. I'm impressed with your time. You can shed 5-8 pounds before Boston easy.

Thanks everyone! I just wanted to whine. That seems to be my trend this time of year when I realize that I lost a lot of fitness over the winter. Still, coming off of an injury, I am very grateful to be running at all! That's one nice thing about injuries, they do give you a sense of gratefulness for having a healthy body.

I know exactly what you mean Daniel. I generally stink at cycling, so I don't fall into this stuff so much now. But when I was running, it was very easy to get into this. There is a very fine line sometimes between whining, being modest and simply having a bad day or two. Based on what I've seen of your training, you really are dong a great job and you will be ready for a good race. Hang in there!
