My Brother in Law called me and asked me if I wanted to go for a ride tonight so I took him up on it. I was a little leery for two reasons. The first, I am not sure how my legs would feel after Saturdays Half Iron race. Second, my bro in law is a a pretty tough athlete. He has done two Ironman's and is training for another. I was not sure if I could hang with him. Another thing it was really hot out, high 90's and really windy.
I let him take the lead going out and was surprised at the pace I was holding. We stopped at a park at about mile 15 to refill our water bottles. In those 15 miles my water was HOT. Yuck to drink it that hot. We headed out around the point of the mountain around the lake to the turnaround point from Saturdays race. I am not sure if it was riding with someone else that was pushing me or the difference of riding with out a long swim beforehand and a run after but tonight I was riding so much easier and faster that Saturday. Heading back it got really windy and we slowed down to about 18 mph then over the last 5 miles the wind died down and we started pushing each other. We was averaging 28 mph on the flats over those miles a full 10 mph faster than I was doing in the same area Saturday. :) It was a really fun ride and fun riding with someone else. We are planning on doing a ride or a run at least once a week together from now on. Should really help with my training.

Thanks! It was a really fun ride and I was redlining a few times. :) Not sure where it came from- probably just a little male ego not wanting to shown up my an Ironman. :)

Amazing average mph Craig! Instead of water maybe you should go with milk for your next ride?

Great ride Craig! The training you went through is still in you. Your brother in law shook some out on the ride. Shayne B, who did the same IM as me, did a run 2 days later. Wrote that if you felt good to go for a run as soon as possible. Did a slow 6 k 3 days later with no problems. Big confidence builder! ;+)
