I think that it's normal to have some adjustment to speedwork, however, I think that the problem may be the increased run frequency + cycling that you've done recently. In other words, I think that I'd look at your workout frequency/volume for the past few weeks and then factor in a new workout type and, in this case, that equals tired!

I started some Yasso 800s for the first time a few weeks ago (where my running pace for the half mile was slightly faster than my 5K average), and I had sore hamstring muscles for 2 days--and I have rarely ever had hamstring issues. So it's absolutely the case that new speedwork is likely to be "noticed" for a few days. That makes sense, of course--I'm using muscles in new and unfamiliar ways.

Nice work, Ashby. Pushing the pace is hard. But eventually, apparently, it helps. One thought that occurs to me is that the heat and humidity are going to mask speed and improvement right now as we begin to heat acclimate. So don't get discouraged by the garmin. If you're pushing it, then your body will adapt.
