First day back running in forever. It felt A-ok. Better than I expected, worse than I hoped.

good 1 mi 00:11:45 11:45 pace
First run out of doors for awhile. I've been running sporadically on the treadmill at the gym, but not regularly, and mostly just for a warm up.

alright Sunday Long Run 6 mi 01:43 17:10 pace
Haven't ran in about two weeks. Between traveling and guests and being lazy, I just haven't made it out to the trail. Today I did six miles and I was crazy slow. Even slower than I normally am. Of ... read more

great Sunday Long Run 4 mi 01:01 15:19 pace
Sunday was a 4 mile day according to the schedule I am following. I decided to try it doing negative splits. On the path I run, I always run out and back. I wanted to run the back 2 miles faster th... read more

RUN
blah 1 mile time trial 1 mi 00:09:00 09:00 pace
I ran a 9:23 mile! Rock on! Totally a PR for me -- by several minutes! All I ran was a mile, figured I'd try to make it fast. Wound up doing about 30 sec / 30 sec run / walk.
The only thing I did ... read more

A few weeks ago, I made the transition from walk/run/walk/run to running the whole time. I found it to be much easier than going back and forth. Going back and forth from running to walking kept me from ever hitting my groove.

RUN
blah Saturday Long Run 3 mi 00:48 16:00 pace
Today was supposed to be my long run day. I was supposed to run 6 miles. After barely being able to pull myself out of bed, I hit the trail bright and early at 10:30am. Ugh... I *really* did not wa... read more

Hang in there! You still have time. Are there any training groups in your area that may be able to help? I just joined the Galloway group in Orlando, and so far it seems to be great!

I too suggest joining a training group. It'll help. Not that I know because I am on the fast track to Slackerville. But I have a good excuse.

FIT
great Toddler Lifting
Spent about half an hour carrying around a 40lb toddler today. Don't know what sort of exercise that is, but my biceps are all rubbery and tired.

Ha. That is awesome. And my toddler is the heaviest 40 pounds you'll ever lift. He is made of lead!

good CrossFit Endurance 1 mi
Today was my first CrossFit Endurance workout (CrossFitEndurance.com). It was to sprint as fast as you can: 20 sec on / 20 sec off, 30 sec on / 30 sec off, 45 sec on / 45 sec off, 60 sec on / 60 se... read more

tired Saturday Long Run 5 mi 01:35 19:00 pace
Today was my longest run to date. 5 miles. After my 11:53 single mile earlier in the week, it was gratifying to know I have not lost my ability to run incredibly slowly. 19 minute mile average. 125... read more

Getting ready for my long run tomorrow. Long for me will be 5 miles. Which isn't really long at all. Less than a 10k. But, well -- baby steps. And tired steps. And shuffling steps. And maybe a litt... read more

RUN
good 1 mile time trial 1 mi 00:11:00 11:00 pace
Ran an 11:53 mile. Which, while it may be hella slow, is still a PR for me! Maybe I'm actually getting better at this running stuff.

Do you warm up at all before you start running? Try walking a 1/2 mile or so first, then start your run. That may help loosen up your muscles and avoid the aches. Good luck!

I always think of the first mile as the bad mile. Nothing feels quite right -- breathing, legs, motivation. But it resolves itself, like you described. And if I know going into it that the first mile is tough, that makes it easier somehow.
