      Was this on road? The site makes is seem like it's a road 50? Oh man, ow!!! I don't think my feet could handle 50 on pavement. Now that I do so much trail ultra running my feet hate me at road marathons! Badass. ;)

      I like to eat more real food on the bike or before tris. My food of choice is PBJ. I think bacon would give you a bit more in a smaller package, if you can tolerate the fat.

      I buy lean, thin cut bacon to minimize the fat and that seems to help.

      Even as a meat eater, bacon was always just not my thing. I cannot imagine chocking it down while running. *shudder* I had good luck with fig bars and pita/hummus during ultra training, though! I agree that real solid food is necessary, though I don't rely on it entirely. I still find I need Gu/Shot Blox for the high doses of easily digestible carbs. Those 30+ mile runs made me HUNGRY so solid food in my belly was nice.
