Many things were against me for this run. First of all, Deb M. was supposed to run this with me but she wasn't feeling well. I decided to go to the bike path in Granville & run up to J-town at the beginning of the path & then back down...that would give me 20. I grabbed my pepper spray & music for company. The bike path was a total & complete mess. Snow, ice, slush...you name it. The first 15 miles were almost completely snow/ice covered. More ice at the beginning in Granville, which then changed to a heavy snow cover the closer I got to J-town. By the time I reached Concord Rd. at mile 9.5...I was done! I needed skis for this run..not shoes. My gait was all wacky trying to find one sliver of solid ground. My legs were getting really sore from trying to find traction where there was none. At the turn around I almost "bit it" & fell, but luckily caught myself. There were several slippery moments...so I had to focus on the ground and where my foot was landing...not fun to do for 3 hours. Also, having just myself for company....let's just say I was tired of my own thoughts after 1 hour. By the time I hit mile 15-16, the path miraculously cleared up & there was pavement. It was glorious! I could finally pick up my pace somewhat. Though I have to say the conditions of the path DID keep me true to my LSD pace...so that's probably a good thing. My last 5 miles were my fastest, but once again hit a slushy patch at mile 19 when I really wanted to go fast. Oh well...it is done...second 20 miler of this training period. My legs are not happy with me at the moment...I just got done spraying them with icy cold water, so hopefully if I hit the foam roller, they will be better.

Just like Deb to bail on you ;) TOUGH run in those conditions. So stressful. Great job keeping with it and overcoming the frustration.

I've been laying here all morning thinking of you & how horrible I feel making you go this alone. I'm sure my day will come when it will be my turn to do a rotten solo run...but man oh man, did you ever persevere, as I knew you would. We have so much to talk about too, I hated not being out there with you. But, if I don't get better, you'll be stuck running Saturday alone too. When I drove Paul to school & saw that bike path, I wondered if you might choose to run in Granville on the streets instead...

continued...excellent job & proud of you for gutting it out. And look, you even got to go faster than we talked about, so that has to make you happy :o) I'm jealous you have (2) 20's down & I'm still waiting to get my first one in. I would still be out there had I tried to run & probably never would have even made it halfway.
I feel horrid...

No worries Deb...you would have hated the conditions today! I forgot to mention that I hid my water bottle/holder behind a tree & it was stolen by someone or something...no other people on the trail today, so it's probably now in some squirrel's nest.

well, at least a squirrel has it and not some low-life thief...but are you sure you looked in the right spot? In 20 miles, all those trees look alike! How far did you run without hydration? Sounds like I owe you a nice, expensive lunch!! (when I can swallow food once again that is...right now, not so much!)

LOL...no, I put it right beside a landmark so I'd know where to find it. I had PLENTY of fluids...had my fuel belt on, so this was just extra...just bummed that now I need to buy a new one.

Wow, great run. I sure wish I would have had the flexibility in my schedule to come do this with you. I've got three 20-mile runs looming soon and I'm not looking forward to those. We had the icy conditions for about a mile and a half of our run today and I can't imagine putting up with it as long as you had to. Great job!

Nice job getting the 20 done in some nasty conditions, it's a tough enough run without the issues of going solo when you didn't expect and dealing with the slippery terrain.

I'm so glad you didn't fall! Maybe the squirrel will return it when he's finished :)

That sucks about the trail conditions they were 95% clear here today but I suppose it was warmer when I ran and there is more traffic here. Great job getting the 20 in. You will benifit down the road from these tough runs. You should probably get credit for 25 today:)

20 Miles is hard to do...alone now I can't imagine that. 18 is the most I've done alone and that about killed me WITHOUT Snow and ice. You did great staying with it Cindy!

Don't feel guilty Deb! I've done 20 by myself before...no biggie! It could've been worse...I could've been attacked!!! THEN you could feel guilty ha ha!!

I have too; like my 17 last week; grueling, boring... but it seems I always get sick when it's a super long run day. I usually push myself on runs while sick or injured; but the fact that I keep getting sick this winter tells me that needs to stop & I have to start taking care of myself. At least I'm injury free...for the moment!

Amazing 20 today, Cindy! After checking the results for Sunday I realized even more how kick-ass your race was. Long and strong. Keep up the good work!
