great Progression run, I think... 5.15 mi 00:55 10:40 pace

Tried a 3/1 run/walk ratio for the first time today, along with a bit of progression. Splits were 11:59/10:59/10:47/10:02/10:02. Wonderful run and saw a few more neighbors than usual...it must be July! Have a great day friends! 5.15 miles, time 54:59, average 10:41, average heart rate 138 bpm, 756 calories.

I'm goin to have to try this "run/walk" thing, if I can get over the mental barrier of walking while running. Great pace and miles!

What did you think of the run/walk? Did you feel like it affected your pace positively or negatively or not at all? The numbers almost always show a positive affect but its tough to get my head around. On LRs I know I am happier and faster but anything under 6-8 miles & I have a tough time convincing myself to do the walks. Great job on your disciplined run today!

@Jan I love the run-walk-run! I've been doing it for the past few months, just not posting it most of the time in my workouts. I've mostly been doing 4 min run and 1 min walk and it reduces fatigue quite a bit on the long runs. My goal right now is to enjoy running, and just finish my first Half in September and so time and pace haven't been real important yet. I've built up a good base now of over 20 miles/week and feel great!

Wow....great work Chuck. I don't know alot about the run/walk other than what I have read in "Running for Mortals"..is this helpful when transitioning to the longer runs?

Nice run/walk ratio. I did the same 3/1 for my longest run yet (16 mi) and I felt amazing through mile 13. I felt like I had only run 5 miles. I will definitely do the run/walk for my next half (or even my first full???). Nice run!

Great job! I LOVE run-walk-run. I was doing a 5min run/1 min walk ratio before I injured myself a couple of months ago, and slowing down to a 3:1 ratio has kept me moving while I heal up... and now I'm running my run intervals faster than before!
