Peachtree Race Recap (My 1st!)
Okay, I have never done one of these race recaps before so please excuse me if I don’t follow the standard format! My official chip time was 1:03:01 for my first 10K and I am very pleased with it! My iphone app says the splits were 8:17, 8:59, 9:09, 10:31, 9:52, and 8:24…not sure how accurate that was.
Chip Time: 1:03:01
Gun Time: 1:23:20
Overall Place: 16750/57754
Gender Place: 11355/29098
Division Place (M40-44): 1659/3768
We arrived plenty early at 6:40am using the MARTA trains and avoided driving in the traffic…good decision! Just after getting off the train we made a pit stop since the lines were short.
Kim walked with me all the way to the checkpoint where you could go no further without a bib and wished me well with a kiss (awwww). I found my “E” wave and then went through a short warm up routine and waited for the start. Well, about 20 mins before the start of our wave I started to feel like a visit to the restroom but decided there wasn’t enough time. It’s funny because I only drank a bit of water and a small cup of coffee, and then stopped drinking at 6am (2 hours prior to start). See below for more info on hydration. :)
The beginning of the race was amazing and I really enjoyed the whole course. All of the spectators and runners just made the atmosphere energized and I’ve never experienced anything like it! Awesome! Well, after just the first 1.5 miles I saw a short line for a port-a-jon and so made a break for it…ended up spending about 2-3 minutes away from the course. Without that stop I might have come in under an hour and so I will do better next time at managing this!
I drank 16oz of water with a Nuun during the first 2 miles, and then just hit the water stations after that. I did not drink enough for the heat and humidity though. I started to feel a headache around mile 5 and it stayed for a few hours after the race. Not real bad, but just enough to remind me to do better next time!
Anyhow, this was a wonderful experience for my first 10K and I can’t wait to try and do it again next year! I love running!
