  1. RUN
    injured Precor 2 mi 00:22 11:00 pace

Terrible. Leg was hurting the last few days so I took it easy, no running. Tried today and every step was pain again. I think I may have fractured my tibia.... I don't know what to do!

Unfortunately I have had experience with fractures so I am pretty sure that's the issue. Gonna take months to be 100% again. Marathon is in October so any proper training is out the window if I am able to run it at all.... very bummed :( I was doing so well and running stronger than ever this year

Oh man! Sorry to hear that, Brian! Hoping it's not really a fracture: Take care!

    blah RT 32 7.15 mi 01:12 10:05 pace

First run in a while where I felt sluggish. I waited until the sun went down but it was still 84 degrees out. Dunno if that was the reason but I hydrated efficiently throughout. Legs were still sor... read more

Wow, that's quite the run after a half marathon, especially in the heat. 84 degrees after sunset is a hot one!
      Have a good rest. :)

  5. RUN
    good Precor 10 mi 01:30 09:00 pace

Progressive run. Started @6mph, worked my way up to 7.5mph. Took a Hammer gel at mile 5 to carry me through strong. I'd like to improve my turnover and general speed in runs up to 10k. Does it... read more

Great mileage! I've looked at some of the Hal Higdon plans (halhigdon.com), though I just look at them for guidance on building my base. However, some of the marathon plans do indeed include speed work.

Thanks for the feedback. The Pfitz plan I am gonna use has some strides in some of the weekly runs but I don't really consider that a speed workout. Maybe I will incorporate a few custom interval runs into the program. Although this year I did PR in the 4 mile and would have in the half if it wasn't so hilly but I attribute that to my increased mileage.

Great work. I recently read (in a Tri Mag) that for endurance/long races, slow distance training is the most important with a little bit of speed work thrown in. The trainer suggested that much of the research on speed training does not consider the longer-term issue of training stress and how it can impair performance. He then explained something about how it is more important to train your body to efficiently use fat vs glucose stores or something like that (slow aerobic work). :)

Back to base training. One more month until my "official" marathon training begins. I'll be doing the Pfitz 18/70 plan. Feeling strong....

That's one nasty looking plan! Good luck!

I have until the middle of June to start training and the Pfitz 18/70 is the training I am looking at using right now but I am still researching and haven't committed yet. Good luck!

Strong tempo run w/40 min @7.5mph. Felt like I could have run faster/longer but don't wanna push it with the race on Sunday.

  15. Gonna just take today off and rest. Legs feel kinda heavy after yesterdays run. Plus it's raining again!

    • Peneloperae Nice Job
      Nice Job:

Yes, I just did a gradual two week taper for my 1/2 today. It really made a difference; I think we often go to races on the verge of being "over-trained". "Over training" is a real problem for athletes working up to a race. Enjoy your tapper!
