Why does my toe nail seem to be coming off? My LR was 10 miles last week......not a marathon!

I lost 4 off one foot when I ran my 1/2 marathon. I'm tying my shoes different now to keep my foot from shifting forward while I run.

Yikes! Knock on wood, but haven't had any toenail issues yet!

@Laura My toe hurt and has been bothering me since the 10 miler. How are you tying your shoes.? Do you have a picture?

I bought a pair of shoes and ordered too narrow in the front and lost two of mine. Shoes too tight in the toes Cammy?

My theory is the longer the run (and especially with the heat), my feet swell more and get compressed. Shoes and shoe tying are great ideas, but also might try switching out to a thinner sock.

@Brenda They are the same ones I have been running in for awhile but do seem tighter now that it is hot. :(

Cammy the guys at our local running store showed me a way to lace them at the top. Its called butterfly lacing i think. They told me i should be able to google it. Try that and if you can't find it let me know and i'll try to explain it or at least take a pic of my laces and send it to you.

I lost another right after my half, I get a blister under the nail and it pushes the nail up. I'm down 4 right now. What's this about shoe tying? And I'm already in thinner socks.

I use the elastic laces. Plus i don't have to untie and tie my shoes!

@Shawna...some people are successful wearing two pairs of thin socks to alleviate any twisting or bunching that might cause the blistering with the one pair.

My friends say it's a badge of honor not to have toenails!

My shoes and socks fit fine and I have lost a nail on each foot. It just goes with the territory.

Losing toenails doesn't go with the territory. It is not something that the majority of runners experience. You might need to be wearing a pair of shoes a half size bigger. I have been selling running shoes for six years.
