Knowing that Bass Lake is 1500 meters around, I went there this morning for some metric madness. The meat was 10 x 1500 with the hope to average ~5:30 pace, and I did it with my stopwatch instead of bringing the Garmin for pacing assistance.
4500 meter warm-up (20:07 including strides), skips, drills.
10 x 1500 meter with 300 jog recovery (avg 90). You can see that one direction is oddly slower (every other interval was opposite direction): 5:12, 5:10, 5:12, 5:09, 5:11, 5:06, 5:08, 5:06, 5:06, 4:58.
3000 meter cool-down (14:22)
This was mentally tough, but each interval wasn't horrible. Luckily, the trail had been marked this morning @ 100, 300, 400, 800, 1200 in each direction so that helped with pacing. All-in-all, I averaged 5:07.5 per 1500, with is 5:29.9 per mile...right on target!
Gear note: I am crazily considering wearing the Asics Piranha SP4 in New York. They felt great over 17.7k today...better than the Hyperspeeds have been feeling of late. Can a 4 oz. flat last for 26.2 miles?
