alright Fat and Slow 9 mi 00:58 06:28 pace

Before everyone gets their undies in a bunch at me, when I say slow, I mean relative to where I want to be. I'm comparing to myself (and my speedy training partner). And I'm not complaining, I am just noting that I still have a lot of work to do.

Today's workout was a "see where I'm at" sort of a thing. Peyton is running Peachtree next week, so I did his 10k simulation workout. Warm-up, then skips and strides, then 6k @ roughly 10k pace, then 400 float, then 400 at best daily effort. I wanted progress from 3:28 for the first k down to 3:24. Once we got rolling (and I was left in the dust!) I was stuck at 3:30 per k. Managed a 3:26 for the last one, but just felt slow.

So, lots more work to do. Somehow need to get economical at today's pace...lactate threshold needs a big bump. One thing I have working against me is I've focused almost entirely on teaching my body to burn fatty acids for the last 5+ years, so I need some major re-training of my energy systems to be able to effectively process and burn lactate.

It's pretty great that you are so aware of what you need to tweak and even though many of us still see you as super fast, it's inspiring to see that you continue to push yourself to higher limits. Keep striving!!

Well said. I hate it when I see people get so wrapped up in comparing themselves to others. We're all different, which makes running such a great thing.

That is the ONE thing about DM that bugs me;/ It's ALL relative to who you are and WHERE you are at a given point in your training, so people need to stop comparing themselves to your pace 'adjectives'...right?! I say, "Took it easy", or "Slowed down" and the responses are comically sarcastic. Do your own THANG people! :)

I agree with Luke. I complain about only doing a marathon, and its all relative cause I need ultras!

I can't believe you say you're slow when you're running 3:30/kilometer! Just kidding, great workout and good job reading your indicators

I only compare the actual exercises, not the paces and times. Between you and the other coaches on here, I gain knowledge from what you do and apply my own paces to them. Can't wait for your next A race to see how all this work and new approaches to training plays out.

So, we need to live closer so I can kick your ass on these track workouts and you can kill me on the 22 mile slow death runs. I'm sure you'll be killing it in a few months regardless.

Still great workout Caleb, don't be hard on yourself sub 3:30 K's are quite good, and even though your not happy with the workout it's only a workout. You will knock it out of the ball park during a race and that's what really counts.
