RUN
good Cemetery run 3.6 mi 00:39 10:57 pace
Felt tired and sluggish Friday. Didn't know yet that I was coming down with a stomach flu. Won't be able to do my long run this weekend :(

I know. I still get dizzy walking around, so I think it will be a few more days before I can run again. I remember getting sick a couple of times last time I trained for a half. I guess it's just the season for that.

RUN
great Speed Training: 7 400s+1 800+... 4.25 mi
I had fun doing 400s today after 1600s last week! Much more pleasant, and it was a beautiful, sunny (albeit chilly) day.

RUN
great Nimitz Trail 7 mi 01:10 10:02 pace
My training is finally starting to pay off. Felt much stronger on this run than the previous two weekend' "long" runs. Didn't walk at all and my legs didn't ache on the hills.

RUN
good Speed Training at Hopkins Track 5 mi
Anyone have advice about cramps? Today I was speed training, and partway through my third 1600, I got a bad cramp in my left calf. I stretched for a while, but it didn't go completely away and made... read more

I have a friend who has a PhD in Nutrition and does sports nutrition research for a living now. She says most cramps are due to dehydration (not muscle tightness or electrolytes, like most people think). That said, I generally only stretch after running, not before.

Thanks, Simon. I drink a TON of water and always carry it with me while I run, so hmm ... and the leg pain never went completely away. It still hurts. Not a cramp now, so much as a sore muscle. I think I overworked it.

From what I've read and heard, it's better to stretch after your run (even better, make it an "aqua" stretch) but not before. However, 10-15 minutes of walking before your run can help in minimizing all sorts of injuries.

Thanks for the info, Kevin. My leg hurt for a day or two, and now it's fine. I think my muscles went into shock from so much exercise :)

RUN
good Cemetery Run, in reverse 4.4 mi 00:45 10:19 pace
I did the cemetery run in reverse, which makes for a very steep uphill and a very long, gradual downhill. The hill is brutal, but the return is wonderful.

RUN
great Nimitz Trail 6 mi 01:03 10:26 pace
I did the first three miles at 10m10s, then walked for a minute, so that slowed my overall pace. Felt great to get out, though!

RUN
good Speed training 4.6 mi 00:53 11:31 pace
I love speed training! I jogged 2.2 miles and did 2.4 miles of speed running/walking. Was out of the house for 53 mins, but couldn't time my speed runs because the track was closed, and I had to do... read more

You're an Inspiration:
That's awesome, Meghan! One of my goals this year is to run a whole mile. I'm a walker, and running has always been a challenge for me.

Thanks, Stephanie! I'm so happy to be running again. I was fantasizing about my long runs in Tilden Park and really missing them. I just hope my old-lady knees hold out :)

Kevin, that's the same day of my race. I trained for three months when I ran it two years ago, so I should be okay. I'm determined to run it no matter how slow I am!

RUN
good Austin Creek Road 3.2 mi 00:37 11:33 pace
This time I went running without having been swimming for a week, and my knee didn't bother me at all. I think it's the swimming, not the running, that is hurting my knee.

I've heard indoor climbing is so fun. I'll have to try it someday! 11 climbs is impressive no matter the difficulty...awesome.
