Caleb prescribed 5-4-3-2-1 intervals today. My first 3.5 warm-up miles were slow and I was nervous I would not survive this one. It was 83* at 6am. So, I reluctantly wore my fuel belt. However, just before the first interval (at mile 3.5) I had to ditch it. I swear to you that thing weighed at least 54.7lbs. I felt like a new runner as soon as I ditched it. The intervals were fun and made the miles FLY by. The legs felt good and I think I did good hitting all prescribed paces. Naturally, though, all of my quickest intervals were up hill. So cruel. My recovery jogs: all flats and downhills. My 8k pace: uphill. Rude. A little after mile 8 I stopped at a gas station (the one with the beer cave) and the attendant was kind enough to give me a cup of ice water. I downed it, scooped out the ice, shoved it in my bra and headed back out. Finished strong and happy (albeit hot and relieved to be done)!
