Nearly died, literally. Collapsed in the final mile of the 5K last night. Just got home from the hospital. Mile 1: 5:38, Mile 2: 6:57 Mile 3.1: 34:30. I don't remember slowing to walk (if that's what I did), but I was awakened in the grass 30 feet from the road, by someone who finally noticed me, and my watch now read 26 minutes. I had been unconscious for likely 6-9 full minutes, I slowly figured out where I was and waited for medical attention, I sat there for awhile trying to comprehend what had happened. I was only about 300-400 meters from the finish, although I barely remember much past the Mile 2 marker. I was desperately trying to break 20 minutes, and I severely over heated. After I was okayed by the Medics to walk, another runner (a nurse) helped walk me across the finish line, called my wife and insisted I go to the hospital to get my electrolyte levels assessed. The initial blood work showed elevated levels for the enzyme for heart attack, or heart damage. That's when things got scary. Later this morning, the second round of blood work showed the enzyme level increasing. The cardiologist ordered a cath to look at my heart, and miraculously found no signs of a heart attack, and no heart damage!! Just one severely overtrained athlete. No more races this summer (heat doesn't agree with me). Everything needs to be easy pace heart rate zones for the near term. A full week's rest ahead, thenf ollow up with the heart doctor in two weeks. Just Glad to Be ALIVE!!

Damn brother, hang in there. Glad it wasn't worse.
