Shoe Break-In, Day Two
5.38
mi
00:46
08:36 pace
Day 2 of breaking-in my Mizuno Wave Universe 4 Racing Flats and I had a solid jaunt with comfortable sub-9 timing and found a "kick" in the last 2 miles that I haven't had in a very long time.
"It must have been the shoes." LOL.
5.38 miles @ 8:36 pace; 46:18 overall timing: 8:55, 8:45, 8:52, 8:34, 8:21, 7:24 (.38)
Happy Sunday, everyone.

@Ken W--We'll have the verdict on the shoe life expectancy pretty soon, K-Dub. Shoes with this kind of construction tend not to last very long and wear down around 200 miles or so and lose their bounce.

Great going, Brian! I'm really interested to see what happens with the shoes later on.

Ohhh awesome! I have some Ronin (is that it?) that I like but they are a little too "racing flat" for this chick.

Nice one Brian! As you know, I'm a huge fan of the Mizuno Wave universe 4's! However, break them in slowly...your calves/Achilles will need time to adjust.

@William N--Thanks, my friend. I'm being very careful with the shoes; my running mileage and pacing has been very conservative this year with the overall transition to lighter shoes. I felt more comfortable with the shoes than my first go around and I "went with it" in the closing miles.

Nice job Brian!

Brian- You're probably ok since you've done a lot in the Conencts and other 4mm drop shoes. Obviously, the 4's are a lot harder though. Anyway, smart way to transition! Do you feel like your form is better?

Have a smooth ride..

@William N--Very true about what you're saying about the 4's. My Newton MV2's are 0-drop, but were much easier for me to wear initially than the 4's, but the 4's forces much greater form accountability than the MV2's. My running form was much better on Sunday than when I first tested them on Friday, which is one of my major goals for my training this year. Will continue to take this slowly, but things are looking pretty good so far.
