Interesting: just one short month ago, when I had my first Long Slow Distance (LSD) run (6km) I was all anxious and nervous. Today's run felt . . . not exactly "meh" but "okay, let's do this".
My pace was even slower this week than for the last 3 LSDs, but intentionally so. The guide I'm following recommends doing these runs at 60%-70% of maximum heart rate, and I've been doing them at about 75%. I haven't gotten sick or injured, but I have started experiencing a bit of pain in one of my heels. I'm not taking any chances, so I disciplined myself to run even slower and keep my heart rate at 67%-70%.
It wasn't easy. There were people walking faster than me and, I may be projecting here, but they seemed delighted to be passing a running guy. Hell, i would be. But whatever. This method has served me very well so far; I have no reason whatsoever to distrust it.
Otherwise, I felt really good. Part of this path takes me through a parking lot (!) which is a strange feeling.
I'm actually looking forward to my Hills training this week, because at least then I get to push the intensity.
