1st 5k in VFFs! 5.4 mi 00:47 08:45 pace

I ended up not racing my 5k barefoot today. A mile of the course was on a dirt path with lots of rocks and acorns so I decided to race in my VFF KSOs for the first time. 1st in my age group and 3rd woman overall! My time was 21:04 (12 seconds faster than my last 5k)! I think what really gave me the edge was my team sparkle skirt. Gary Tuttle was there racing (2 time US marathon champ - 1975 and 1976) and his wife was right behind me the entire time. It was an out and back course so as Gary passes by us on the way back to the finish, he yells to his wife, “Don’t let that girl in the dress beat you!” Then I was determined to not let her pass me, and she didn’t. Yay!

Splits:
Mile 1 - 6:50/mi
Mile 2 - 6:55/mi
Mile 3 - 6:48/mi
Last 0.1 - 6:28/mi

Warm-up: 2 miles
Cool-down: 0.3 mile

Thanks! Forgot to mention a shout-out to the 3 mojitos I had the night before. Pretty sure they helped.

ROCK STAR. I saw a couple of people in monkey shoes on my Sat. run and thought of you. :-)

    Great Performance:

I guess our definition of barefoot is different. I think any race without shoes is barefoot. Congrats on your first race getting 1st in your age bracket.
