great First outdoor run in the Karhu Flow 3 7 mi 01:04 09:08 pace

I FINALLY got to do my first outdoor run in the Karhu Flow 3s today, and it went great! The shoes felt really good and I had a nice flow going today. I received this shoe as a test pair for a guest shoe review that I am doing for Runblogger - Peter L. Since I've been rehabbing my ITBS indoor on my treadmill for most of the year, this is the first run I've had with the Flows of any decent time/distance and my first time trying them out on the road.

I started off with 30 mins easy, then 10 mins medium/hard, then finished up at easy effort. I wanted to vary the effort & pace, to see how the shoe performed at different paces. The shoes felt quite light, quick, and flexible; and made it easy to run fast during my higher effort segment. They have an interesting feature called the "fulcrum" which is supposed to reduce vertical "oscillations" of the runner and help propel you forward. I definitely felt like the shoes encouraged a nice forward lean and almost felt like they were "throwing me" forward the whole time. I am not 100% sure if I can fully attribute this to the fulcrum, or if it is just that these are super light and low riding racing flat style shoes.

As I am accustomed to 4am darkness runs, I was a little overdressed for a noon-time daylight run today. Got a bit heated up, and I think my HR was riding a little higher than normal. But it was a great run, and a good way to burn off a little steam before jumping into our van for the 12-15 hour ride out to my wife's parents in western Minnesota. Have a good weekend everybody!

    Nice run Brad...btw are you aware of how the "crown" of the road affects ITB? I found out the hard way about that when coming back from my ITB injury a few years back. If you want to hear more, e-mail me off line?
